errm im a bit confused. I bought a brand new barrel from Holden and it came with the wafers, a big spring, a small spring, a tiny pin, a bigger pin, a latch and another latch that (the bit that holds the key in)

Big spring. It goes on the back of the ignition long bit.
Small spring. I dont know where this goes.
tiny pin. I know where this goes (although it dpesnt want to go)
Bigger pin. No idea
Latch. Goes with the tiny pin.
Other latch. Know where it goes, but have no idea how to put it in there.
Wafers. I know where they go.

I have searched around and cant find any info...

take your old barrel and new barrel to a locksmith to ensure it is coded to your existing key
otherwise you will have a mismatched door lock and ignition lock

Inside the housing that the barrel goes in there is a thing you have to unlatch so the barrel locks in. It is hard to describe but I just got a small screwdriver and tried to move things in there until I found a part that clicked.

I think I might know what the problem is. There is a pin with 2 different size diameters on each side. I think I am missing the spring from this thing. I'll have a look for it or just go to holden and get one. I hope that's all it is. I dont think im doing this again. ever lol.

yes there's a metal strip push down on it with a screw driver and barrel will slide strait in took me no more than ten min to change barrel and switch

Want a medal? :p just kidding.

I got it going. I must have lost the spring luckily I had another one in the old barrel. All sorted now :D

Put some grease in the area where the pin slides if it's not there already. They are prone to jamming at the ramp area. You can smooth that area with a dremel to make an old one work again if the pin is binding. Poor design on Holden's part.
