Hey guys i am buying this car on friday, its a mint vt s pac 5 speed thats bog stock... how easy will it be for a rwc? its got rego till april 2013, i herd having rego and transferring into your own name is easier
That is like asking how long a piece of string is - that I can't even see. There's no way to tell how easily it will be to pass a RWC. If it's got rego till April next year why are you bothered? You'll have a year to make sure it's all good for next year. Also depending on how recently the rego was renewed, the RWC may still be valid. No one on here can help you, you need a qualified mechanic to look it over.
Its up to the roadworthy tester and his veiw of the vehicle regardless if its got rego or not it first must pass the inspection , my g/f ute ex nsw rego still had a page and a half of faults found when i took it to my mate for a rwc for rego here in vic .
I take it that it must be different in Vic, here in NSW if a car is registered and changes hands all that is required is a transfer of registration.
Transfering ownership and RWC in Victoria is probably a lot different to some other states, as Victorian cars only have a RWC done on transfer of ownership it is a pretty thorough test now days. If you go by the book on selling and buying a car in Victoria the seller must provide a RWC or sell the car unregistered and without plates, except if you trade in to a dealer then you don't need to do anything in regards to a RWC. The RWC has changed recently and testers now have to photograph the car in their workshop and take pics with the wheels off etc and keep records for several years, I have a few friends that did RWC and it all got too hard and they gave it away. Price has also gone up a lot due to the new rules, don't quote me but I think they charge around the $200 mark plus what ever they find that needs fixing. I don't think I would buy a car without a RWC unless it was a very late model with low km.
That is why you pay the tester a fee to checkover the car and he gives you a list of the things that need fixing before he will issue a RWC, you then go and fix them yourself and re submit the car and if all the items listed have been fixed he then issues the RWC, or you let them fix the items they have found. The link below shows what items the tester is supposed to check. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/7A14DDDC-3DF3-4ADD-9821-B8C7816777A3/0/VSI26web.pdf
The best way to do it without cancelling the rego if you buy it without a roady take the transfer papers in get the car put in your name then you have 28 days to provide vic roads with a rwc. As for how easy it will pass only 1 way to find out take it in for a roady and the work shop will either pass it or give you a list of what is wrong with it and the last roady i got cost $175 but have herd most places ate from there abouts and up in price I have only herd of one joint at 150.
cheers guys, i know it was a stupid question, i bought a unregistered vs commodore that needed engine mounts , windscreen and a power steering pump. and that car was in a state, but this one seems quite honest
The main things they look at is all the globes working, brakes working (including the abs), fluid leaks, tyres and wheels, engine mounts, steering and suspension components. Pretty much everything needs to be in a safe working order. Look at the last owners service history or receipts for work thats been done before buying. As said above transfer it into your name and you will have 28 days to present a rwc to vicroads or the reg will be suspended. Don't be surprised if you get pinged for engine mounts again they tend to fail and sag around every 10 years.
yeah mate just did all the globes! checked engine mounts and one is on its way out.. the place i go to are quite calm with rwc ( still very strict ) but they help me out. They said its easier issuing a rwc when the cars got rego
just a lttle off topic, and sorry to hijack your thread, but does anyone know what those rims are called? are they a genuine holden item? i have them on my wagon. cheers
