Car feels down on power ! Has done 280,000k would it need a new cat? Has new plugs, leads , oil and every filter changed! Still down ? So I reckon a clogged cat???

If there are broken bits rattling around inside the cat, you will definitely hear it. I currently have a busted cat, I can't notice any difference in power, though it does sound like ****. Look inside the exhaust for little bits broken off.

Yeah mate, sounds terrible. I'm booked in for a service one on the 29th so it's getting replaced then.

You can definitely tell if it is your cats. Get under and give it a bash and see if you can hear **** rattling around. If its down on power though then it may not be.

Go to an exhaust shop and ask them to do a temp test. The temp should be at least 10% hotter at the rear for it to be working. If it is the same, it isn't working or it's already hollow. If it is higher at the front, it will be blocked.
