8 litres in a VR, but I recalibrated mine so the Km reading (on Km to empty)shows lower than what the fuel guage does. When it gets down to about 50km left til empty I fill up. At that figure there's a bit over 1/4 tank left.
Mine used to beep and it would take 50 litres but of late it beeps and only takes 47 litres. Tank holds 59 litres. It beeps as soon as the needle hits the red. I have taken it a further 80km after the beep when out bush.
Yeah the light usually comes on with about 8 litres of fuel left, and distance to empty usually shows around 60km or so, but I wouldn't trust that figure in the city, I have seen mine drop from 48km to less than 20 in a matter of a minute or so. Generally as soon as the light comes on, just fill up... you don't want all the crap floating around in the bottom of the tank getting taken up into the fuel system
Fuel Tank Sizes With the VS, Holden revised the fuel tank quantities from 63.6L (14 gallons) and 80L to 59 and 73. My understanding was that this was meant to cover the fact that it was difficult and not desirable to completely fill the tank. Filling required drip filling, and then there was no air gap to allow fuel expansion if it got hotter. I also believe that it is a good idea to not routinely let the fuel level get low, because the fuel pump is immersed in the fuel tank for cooling. Regular use with low fuel levels can reduce the life of the pump due heat stress. The owners manual states that the light comes on with about 8L of fuel remaining. Filling to the first click seems to back this up when the revised quantities are accepted. However, I have found that it is possible to add about 4 to 5L more by drip filling when on a trip, i.e. will start to run the fuel level down straight away. I have run mine VS after Distance to Empty has gone to less than zero once, but usually try to keep a quarter tank or more.
Ahhh that makes much more sense! So mines comes on with about 9 litres left based on that, which is in line with what you say
