So im looking at a vs grange on the net which is priced at $11,950 just wondering if this is a fair price? the car looks to be in good condition has done 199,700 k's, has factory 5.7L stroker, GTS style devinish sports seats with velour trim.

The value of any car is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it. First thing I suggest is you ring around a few insurance companies and get a quote on insurance and how much they are willing to insure for at agreed value. That will give you an indication of it's value. I'd try to haggle a thousand off the price.

Redbook says $7,700 - $9,800 for one sold privately...and $4,900 - $7,000 for trade-in so the one on the net is asking top dollar. The photo is also almost 6 months old?....but it sure looks nice.

Redbook always seems to under value things a little in my opinion. There's only 7 of this model listed on carsales. One asking $14000. Providing this one is in great condition I think $10500 - $11000 is a fair price. Would be even better if it has a logbook service history to go with it.

Just a tip, don't try talking the price down over the phone or by email. Check out the car first, do all the usual checks and then make your offer. Set yourself a limit. If he refuses the offer then there's no harm in walking away but make sure you leave a card with your contact details in case he changes his mind. I'd start the offer at $10,500. If not then say 'ok I'll think about it'. Leave it a few days and if you still want it call back and offer $11,000. Just don't insult the person by offering $5000 :whistling. If the owner really wants it gone they will take $11,000.

I've seen this car getting advertised for a while now in my skimmings over carsales checking out some v8's.
so i know its been on the market a while now. if i remember the ad correctly i think it's only got a few months rego left on it too which needs to be taken into account.
really sweet looking ride though, and fairly rare 5.7L, so for $11k-ish it seems alright.

probably just like most places (i've dealt with it in nsw and qld before) with interstate rego swaps.
just take the current rego down to "insert name of rego place here" (whatever its called in wa) fill in the corresponding paperwork and supply a roadworthy certificate and hand in the qld plates.
they'll give you new plates and transfer over the remaining rego.

I take you you've never sold a car before? Or probably never bought one for yourself? I don't think the seller would actually expect to get the full asking price that's why the price has been set higher. So there's room to haggle. As I said already, start at $10500 and work from there. Besides, 200,000kms for a 12 year old car is pretty good! Less than 18,000kms per year.
