What he said.... The tune will compliment the mods made, and if he's getting extractors and cats he'll end with a check engine light and need to take it to a tuner anyway. A tune will prevent it from running like a pig and you'd more than likely end up with more power and use less fule than when it was standard, plus it would drive a lot better. Theres no need for a piggy back computer, just call some of the reputable tuners around melb and talk to them about your mods and what they'd recommend.

Really, if he gets Extractors and Cats he will get a Check Engine Light, NO HE WON'T, I didn't so why would he? pacemaker Headers come with the O2 sensor extension lead so why would he get a Check Engine Light, again I DIDN'T WHEN I DID MINE.

As for RUNNING LEAN, isn't that what the fuel management computer and MAF sensors are for, to detect airflow (by detecting vibrations on them 4 little wires inside the pipe work ) and adjust the fuel system to match. If not hat does MAF stand for, just a guess I think it MAY be Mass Air Flow.

There is so much what the #### in this thread.

$1000 for 18rwhp gain = ripped. The tuner you used was most likely high on crack or even better, didn't even tune anything!

OP instead of listening to anyone in this thread, talk to some reputable workshops like these:

LSX Garage Hallam- Dyno Tuning, LS Engine Specialists, Holden & Ford Tuning and Upgrades

APS | PERFORMANCE TUNING | HOLDEN & FORD PERFORMANCE

It's the number one place in Perth, if you think huge power gains from a tune your dreaming, a tune is over rated but I guess they are making big bucks from people who don't know any better, don't get me wrong, if you go to the motorplex they are handy because even 18rwhp will improve your times.
Amazed that even if you produce evidence some people don't believe it

There are no stupid questions only stupid answers from stupid people.

We live in an era of smart phones and stupid people.

OMG man... Do you even know what a tune does?
If you're not happy with your 18rwhp tune then go get the stock tune flashed back in and get your money back. A tune is suppose to make it drive better, it's not about numbers. Your car would be running very lean with an otr and full exhaust without a tune, wouldn't be much faster than stock either.

Are you for real, do you know what a tune does, read my MAF sensor comment and you might google it and find out what this sensor actually does. WOULDN'T BE MUCH FASTER THAN STOCK ha ha ha ha, no really, did you look at my DYNO sheet I posted, do you think a stock SsV is 264rwkw? No it wasn't running lean. What were your DYNO figures before and after a tune. Below is a video of mine before the tune but with Ectractors, Cats, OTR yep running like a pig ha ha ah

Errm, yeah no. Sorry, LSX motors are renowned for how easy they are to get power out of.

Here's a vid for reference

VE SSV
- Full 2.5" Exhaust
- OTR intake
- Full custom tune

= 268rwkw

and that is not a high number, it's a pretty standard number for those types of mods.

I can't imagine where anyone would pay close to $1000 for a full custom tune only to get another 18rwhp. It's not all about numbers, but it is what it is...

In relation to the original post, I'm in Sydney, having my car Dyno tuned Tuesday, paying $800. Had a stock dyno run on 31/3/13, made 208rwkw (2012 SS manual). Ive recently added a Pacie 3" cat back, fitting a Dus OTR Sunday then the tune Tuesday. I will post results.

Interestingly, my mate's car (bought new exactly the same time as mine 6 months ago made 215rwkw on a stock power run yesterday. same dyno). When we got them the cars have felt completely different to drive from day 1 (engine, manual boxes and clutches)......The ole production variances at work!

If you did the same mods as mine, headers hiflows and otr you will make 270-280rwkw, the variation between your mates and yours could be as simple as tyres/pressure as well as ambient air temperature differences on the different days. Interesting thing is Chris, who works at Active Performance owns the same model SS as mine and has the same mods and his figures were the same as mine to the decimal point.i forget what he said he did the quarter in, it might have been 12.7 on street tyres.

That's right, don't explain how changing am exhaust system will "pop" your engine or how taking in cool air from from in front of your radiator will do the same, hard to explain when you don't know right. I'm talking from experience I'VE had,The fact I DID THOSE MODS TO MY CAR and DROVE IT FOR 6 MONTHS BEFORE I HAD A TUNE, not what I think or what I was told by a bloke whose mates sisters boyfriends did something. I did the tune because im on a higher income in the mining industry and could afford to blow $1000. I would not recommend it unless you have $1000 to blow wothout blinking because the results are minimal and its unneccassary as you can do them mods and retain O2 and MAF sensors. I've only been able to determine that your don't know squat by what your have said.

POP, damn my engine popped, must have been caused by them new tyre eh? That makes sense too.

And what experience is that Wazza?? Did you watch someone using a dyno?

If I was you, I would give up while you are behind.

LMAO! Let's all listen to Wazza because he earns a higher income in the mining industry. What does that have to do with anything!
To the OP, go and see a few shops and have a chat with what you want from the car. DO NOT TALK NUMBERS! See which shop you feel most comfortable with and then go from there.
