I don't think there is any set down period for changing the fluid - the book just says "inspect". However, I change mine about every 3 years when the fluid gets a bit dark. The way I do it is to suck all the fluid from the reservoir out with a big syringe (or a lot of rags) then fill the reservoir up again, run the engine so the clean fluid mixes with the old then repeat the suck-out bit again. This results in an almost complete oil change without the chance of airlocks etc.
Good Luck.
