I just drained the block by removing the knock sensors (and yeah i did poke the hole with a screw driver cz there was sludge blocking it). Waited till the last drop. Then drained the radiator.

And at the end all i ended up getting out was 7.56 liters! And i know the engine holds 12 liters. Where the hell is the 4+ liter??

    Its becoming really frustrating!

The heater hoses and heater core will probably hold a litre or two, maybe more..

I have never drained any of my cars coolants completely, never had a single problem. What for? Just flush it with the hose until you get no more colour and put coolant in it.

If you're really OCD about it you can hookup compressed air to one of the hoses and try blast it all through, however, I have been told this can cause more damage than it fixes.

If you have run the hose till it comes out clear, then you have done it right anyways.

I've usually drained "most" of the coolant out by taking thermostat out, then filling with water, run engine for about 5 minutes, with heater on high of course, then drop bottom hose. Repeat three or four times, usually water comes out pretty clear. Put new thermostat and gasket in. I figure the system takes 12 litres, so a 5 litre bottle 50% mix, straight into radiator, then a 1 litre bottle 50% mix in the overflow bottle. Done that to both cars on a bi annual basis, and never had a problem.

And make sure you bleed system after changing coolant.

Never put compressed air in the system. Yea it will take all the water out, but any hard and sharp debris in the system will be forced flying out at high speeds which can break/cut the seals easily.

    Yes, sorry, bad explanation.

Concentrate into radiator, top up with water, plus the water left in equals 50% mix. I think I know what I meant.:doh:
