Really! I've still got the bulb so i can replace,was told by a guy at an autoshop once the clockspring is replaced i could either have it scanned by a holden dealer or i could remove the bulb..

Maybe i need to follow this up more cause i must have missed something..

I was under the impression that once the springs replaced and the light isn't reset it's no biggy?

So what does this light mean,that it can deploy anytime while driving?

My mums vt also has the same problem with the light!

The light means you have a problem with the airbags, they won't deploy at any time while driving but they probably won't work if you get into a crash if there is a problem with them. Get it scanned at Holden or a mechanics or auto electrician, the light may just need resetting now that you have changed the clock spring. Not very smart of the autoshop guy to tell you to remove the bulb.

well if you didn't know which part was coursing the air bag light to come on ?? why would you replace the clock spring why wouldn't you go to a tech first and have them run a diagnostic on it it may have worked out a lot cheaper than just randomly changing parts

Sorry for reviving the thread but I just wanted to let people know that I just did mine with a 5/8 combo spanner. For anyone who doesn't have a 16mm socket.. thx a bunch for this thread though. Took out a fair bit of guess work for me..

I have a vx so the same as vt. My airbag light came on while i was driving and i had the auto elec look at it with his scantool and it read that i had a airbag wattage to high and pretensioner to low so not to sure of what it would be. Horn works and stero controls work my blinker cruise control is a bit dicky. Any ideas before i but the clock spring thanks.

Thanks very much for a great post. I was able to diagnose the problem and replace the clock spring. I am new to things mechanical and found the step by step guide extremely useful. Thanks again!

what a great thread. i'm doing this on my wifes VX2 today.
interesting to note i bought a new clockspring from Holden for $185 (6 wire type, so, for radio remote control action) and have found that it doesn't rotate - unless you pull the two clips together ie : like when it is installed - will it rotate. its already centred so its good to go.

FWIW i took some photos along the way as the ones up above are no longer there ;

also ; the NEW clocksprings from holden do not rotate when they are brand new. they rotate after installation.
the two clips on the front are pushed in by the steering wheel fitment which then allows the assy to rotate.
this is as expected i went and checked with holden this morning with another unit they had in stock and the same behaviour was seen.
