the last six numbers are your Sequential production number.
Mine's an International model and the first bunch includes 6g1ek55759l. Does that mean it's an Omega with extra interior stuff and that's all that's different?

VX Berlina Wagon 2001
Very useful thread thank you. I got a new fuel pump a couple of years ago and it wouldn't pick up the bottom 20l, so I've been driving around with effectively a 54 l tank instead of a 74 l tank. I think it's dying again so looking for a new one and there seems to be a lot of changes around the time of my car (perhaps the pump I got b4 was the wrong version). So using the Vin to help sort things out with this thread.
A have a 20 Jun 2001 build Berlina Wagon V6 ecotech.
My VIN is 6h8VXL35A1Lxxxxxx
12345678==1234567
So everything checks out except the "A1" (position 9&10): I assume "A"=3.8l EcoTech and "1"=2001 (not the "Z" someone suggested?)
It seems to be a bit of a cross over between the previous and the next version of VIN.
Thanks again for the post.
