They are not that type of switch, they are a
smd tactile switch and electrical tape wont stop the contact.
The type of contact you are thinking of is found in tv remotes etc.
I wish (tv) remotes used smd tactile switches as I prefer their positive feel rather than the squishiness of rubber membrane remotes. I also wish tv/bd/etc remotes used low power wireless rather than IR as pointing is so 1990’s.
I’ve also had too many remotes where buttons stop working due to the conductive coating on the membrane itself degrading. The only saving grace of rubber membrane remotes is they are very cheap to make.

As to the topic of the thread, if one doesn’t want to use the bottom remote button, one can always take apart the key and unsolder the smd switch from the circuit board. You can also sticky tape it to the owners manual so that it can be re-soldered should you later change your mind.
