Hmm.. You might be onto something with the leaking boot garnish.. I changed my garnish and it started around then, so maybe its this new one..

Thanks though, Ill remove the tape tomorrow and see..

i fixed my boot leak a while ago. first of all i tried the window sealant as described here. still water got in but i think it was less. then i found on the inside of the boot where the taillight pocket is joined to the side of the boot there was a big crack and you could see the path the water was taking. so i just used some silicon to plug it and also used grommets with holes in them on all screws on the rear garnish and reverse lights on the boot.

no water since and there has been quite a bit of rain so im happy.

hope this helps

Great 'how to guide', it's a major problem. I overcame mine by pulling out the tail light and sealing it, but the water only gets to the tailight because it runs down the outer skirts of the boot lip under the seal. Originating ofcourse from under the parcel shelf in between the rear quarter window and the rear windscreen as said before in the guide.

Haha well just have to wait 16 years and see if the VE commodore has the same problem :p

Attached is Chridda's original post, I saved it years ago to PDF format. Easy to print out if needed.
