How To Flush A V6 Cooling System

The best way to fill the system is to get a 10 inch length of hose that will fit into the inner of the radiator filler thereby creating a riser tube to the radiator filler point.. The top of this hose is above the highest point of the motor and above the bleed screw on the thermostat housing. With the whole system back together pour 50% Glycol - 50% demineralised water mix into hose with bleed screw loosened. The system will fill and any air will bleed out of bleed screw. When only coolant is exiting bleed screw tighten it. Remove hose from radiator filler (some coolant will spill as hose is full of coolant). Replace Radiator Cap and run motor for a while. Loosen bleed screw again as bubbles in system will purge for a while. When satisfied all air has bled off (might take 5 or 10 minutes as motor warms up) tighten screw and all is done.
If you have flushed the system with a hose without removing the knock sensors from block, you may wish to add a little extra Glycol to 50% dilute the water left at bottom of block thereby maintaining the recommended 50/50 mix ratio.

1) While you're on the topic of belts, is there any specific way to tell how tight is tight enough, when re-affixing and tensioning the drive belt?

The tensioner takes takes care of that. On the tensioner are three marks and a pointer. Two marks are close, one is further away. When the pointer gets to the mark that is closest to the other one, it is time to replace the belt.

The bleed screw on a VS V6 is on the thermostat housing.

Im pretty sure it would be the same on the VS as it is on the VR, you just need to take the engine cover off.

Apart from the alternator being further to the left, and the thermostat housing being right on top in the middle, it's pretty close.

The process on a VT is similar, but the hose locations are different. They also have a bleeding screw on the thermostat housing so you don't need to leave the top hose off.

Additionally, you can use the trip computer to check the water temperature and make sure it's right for the thermostat you're using. This is accessed by pressing and holding the Mode and Up button (or is it down.. it's the right arrow anyway) and turning the car on. When you release the buttons (once the car is running) you will hear it beep and pressing the mode button will take you through the diagnostics items, including a digital water temperature readout.

It certainly wouldn't hurt. A lot of people don't use them, but they'll only do good..

For $5 from the Holden dealer, why wouldn't you?
Cause all coolant now has this chemical mixed into the soloution. It lub`s the seals
