I need to know how I am supposed to get into the gap between the metal of my door. I need to take the central locking actuator out of my drivers side door, just to swap it with the one in the rear passenger door for the moment. I'm pretty sure I can do this, as when I change them and plug in the 5pin connector in the drivers door, that will change the actuator to the master one, or whatever.
My question is, how exactly do I get the darn thing out? I took my door trim off today, and found that I haven't got much room to get a screw driver or whatever in there. Is there something I'm missing? Like a clip or sumthing that will allow the actuator to just pop out? Or is it as painful as it looks trying to get it out?

    Thanks.

Im going by these should be the same as a VN......
Front ones are not interchangeable with the rears, but can be done short term.
The front motor will come out you need a torque screwdriver, and its not to bad..... The rears I found easier to just removed the entire mechanism and replace it that way.

An allen key will work fine also.
You need to undo the 3 flat bolts that screw into your door jamb, around the door loclking mecanism. They are a goldish colour, have heads about 1.2cm diameter and are located in the door jamb. They are not hidden by the door trim. If you have any problems with this post here and Il take some pics. I have done Heeeaps of commodore central locking motors so i know my way around them pretty well, and have learnt most of these things through my own stuff ups.

Also, the swap you are trying to do will not work. You need a 5 pin actuator for the 5 pin plug, there is no way around it - short of wiring a new plug on.

thanks andrew. If you could take some pics i'd really appreciate that, just to clarify the bolts you are talking about. I think i know what you mean, but just to be sure.
Ok, so the swap won't work, will I be able to just buy a new actuator from jaycar? I know it won't be a genuine one, and from what I have read, I will lose the deadlock ****tionality, but it will still work yes? If not, then I think i'll go to u-pull-it, see if I can pick one up, as I'm just trying to fix these things so mum can sell it. (it's mum's car, and she only bought it so that I could fit in the backseat when we went anywhere hahaha, but now I have my own car so she doesn't need it anymore).

Heres the pic showing the bolts. These three hold the entire lock assembly in place.

As you remove this and manuver it around to get it back in place, you will dislodge the wires and levers that operate the rest of the door lock parts in that door. Count these and take note of where they go as you take them off. There is nothing worse than reassembeling your door only to realize the handle doesnt work (no bull**** - that is the absolute worst thing that can ever happen to you)

ah sweet thankyou mate. I was thinking of completely different screws, so lucky you did post this pic! lol. Would have been a bit awkward otherwise. And yes I have learnt my lesson of taking careful note of where things come from, after having taken my car door and ash apart, putting it back together, and having screws left over :bang: bahaha.

But thanks again for the photo.

Oh and what about using one that I can buy from jaycar for like cheap as, will this be suitable?

    Cheers
    Luke

You want a 5 pin one that is Both a sensor AND an actuator. If you monkey rig a 3-pin one in there it will only work as a sensor OR an actuator (depending on how you wire it)
