So i might be taking my engine out this weekend for a tear down and i was wondering...how do you know what year the engine is? Reason i ask is the previous owner might have ruined the original engine (the one that came with the car) and put it another Ecotec, off an older model commodore. So basically, how can i know what year my Ecotec engine is?...or at least for which model commodore? I noticed there is like a part number on the side of the block. Something like "Series II Gm 24506029" does that tell me what year it is or are all Ecotecs the same numbers? Cheers!
More than likely to be the same year as the car I would think , the Series II GM 24506029 number would be an indication of this . In your case a series II VY
Over hear, the VXs and VYs V6 all came with S2 engines. I dont think S1 or any other ecotec was imported. So basically, from 1999 to 2004 all came with the same engine. I was wondering how i can know what year my engine was made? Or if it is a VXs Ecotec.
Safer to just assume the engine was build the same year as the chassis. Once essembled, the engine is just a lump of metal until its cranked and run for the first time.
Looked everywhere for the engine number but couldnt find it. The # above is all i could find! PLUS just the number 6. Its under GM. Any pointers as to where this engine number is! Much thanks!
