so the sanding process shall be made easier/faster with a new tool bought today

ill let you guys know if it really is worthwhile using one. which it probably will be, as i absolutely hate sanding by hand =P
(once you have sanded a full entertainment unit by hand you can whinge aswell =P )

update on tips:

use an electric sander if you can, and hand sand parts that the sander cannot get into. (which the sander gets into about 90%+ of everything)
i now refuse to sand by hand if im given a choice.

oh and it was $88 from bunnings, cheapest price i could get it
however you could probably get a home handyman brand for less. i got the makita because i know ill be using it on many projects in the future.

also sanded/primed rocker covers today. hope to atleast get one coat of black on them but i think the can will run out.
will put pics up when its all done.

time for yet another update today.

this is how the covers started when i first got them
rockers 1.jpg

sanded earlier, with sander and it was amazing.
primed surface with 3 coats of the VHT primer.
left to dry for a few hours.
coated in the black VHT hi temp paint. 3 coats

and this is is how they now look.
rockers 2.jpg

next weekend will chrome strip them (and put the pics up) and then clear coat (rockers and engine cover) probably the next sunny windless weekend.

looks awesome lufkin. love the 2 tone look.

so anyway here is pretty much a final update until i clear coat it. and then fit it (hoepfully clear tomorrow. maybe fit if no rain and it dries)

ok firstly if you do use a paintbrush do not flick the paint near the end. or you get this occuring.

thanks to my best friend mr paint texta =P it has cleared up. luckily its pretty hidden otherwise i would have totally repainted it.

so this is the rockers with the chrome strips.
and after it is the rockers and engine cover together to show the final product.

so yeah its finally all come together.

keep posting up any questions you have or your covers you have painted to give others the inspiration to do so.

I did it with 2Pack and used Hifill to smooth it out.

I hate those engine covers even in painted form. I rather a bare engine and just throw them out first thing I do.

I don't know why manufacture put them on engines there days, engine always looks way better without them. Plastic crap!

on old engines the plain bay looks awesome in my opinion Vlad (eg 454, 350's etc)
but on newer cars they suit as it looks better then looking at a mass of wires =P

ok so update.
finally done =P

what it looked like beforehand

also a big tip:
i would recommend changing the gaskets to new ones if you do rocker covers.
and make sure you put them in the correct bloody way! =P (so tab goes in tab spot)
i also took the nuts that hold the engine cover down and painted them lightly in chrome. came up much nicer then before.
