How to: Source your own diff gears and remove them yourself

hey mate.. i did this got the 3.9 gears and i got quoted 900 for install.. seems a ***load higher then 300.. where abouts did you get yours done at?

Replacing all the diff bearings sofar i got the outers done and the inners ready to be pressed on, also a bearing shop said there is 2 bearings for the pinion is this correct i havnt gotten around to taking the pinion out because i dont have a big enough socket, is it a 27 as said above? i will have to borrow one, also looking at diff gears because there is no point doing the pinion bearing without putting some gears in. i'm looking at 3.45 or 3.7s would really like 3.7s but they are hard to come by. good write up mate.

As far as R31 diffs go, here are the ratios;

Manual Skyline, LSD and open - 3.7:1
Automatic Skyline, LSD and open - 3.89:1
Manual & Automatic Pintara - 4.11:1

The only ones that differ from the above are the GTS2 Skylines (bright red, white wheels, only 200 made) which use a 3.89:1 diff regardless of transmission.

I'm 110% on those ratios, a lot of people do automatic to manual conversions which is probably why some people get confused about the ratios.

Done this today mate. Found a diff from a r31 auto wagon. Picked up the whole diff for $100 and got the 3.89.1 out of it. I hears these are noisy from factory? I hope not haha.

Thanks alot for the write up mate helped so much. Know just have to take it to a diff shop to get them to replace all bearings and seals and shim the new gears up.
