i get mine done at the paint shop.
you start off with normal clear coat and add some black tinter. atleast when it is finished it dries clear and shiny like glass. the more coats the darker it gets.
You must be able to see the difference in colour of bulbs like red and orange for brake and blinkers at a certain distance.

Have done this the dodgy to my old Escort but it worked.
Get 1 x black stocking, insert tail light into stocking as if it was a leg, refit tail light.
Has a satin/matt effect and comes up ok.
The small holes still allow the light to go through and if there is a problem with the law we all know how to remove stockings quickly lol.
PS Get your SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) to buy the stockings to look not gay.

    Mate nightshades is crap.
It fades over time, like a year and the top lights will be nearly the original colour.
    Go the clear with tint.

    illegal

looks cool but is definately illegal
your not allowed to modify any part of the forward and or rearward facing lighting systems on any car.
tinted t/lights,tinted h/lights,eyebrows,your not allowed to remove side indicators if fitted.
be careful as these mods can be seen from a distance and as small as they are can be the begining of a defect
    cheers

Yep, you're both not wrong there. Bloke next door to work did it on his old car, actually looked really effective! No paint runs and easy fixed if a copper doesn't like it.

Top of the page in every section you enter, there is a little icon that says "new thread".....click that. It won't show up in other people's threads, just in each section you enter.

take the lenses off and spray the inside, no run marks and it keeps the glossy look on the outside, just do one coat because it dries dark. If its not dark enuf, take them off and do it again

i had my old vl painted for almost 2years, always out in the open and never faded i was lucky to not get done cos they were dark as

legal aslong as you can distinguish the individual colours ie white, yellow and red

it doesnt matter if you can distinguish the colours, they are there for safety reasons and they are not to be tampered with

But i used nightshade on my VZ and i done mine about 10months ago and no sign of fade or chipping off

i took my whole tailight housing off, i found it easier than removing the lenses.
use wax and grease remover and wipe it off properly.
and even coat of nightshade let it dry
then another coat let it dry properly
    then a coat of clear.

i did the two, the light shines just like it did before the tinting.
its a personal thing, and i think it looks good. check mine out there is a not bad pic of them
