I am trying to fit new bump stops to the rear axle of my HR Holden Ute. I've tried heating them up in hot water, soap, baby oil, wd40. I can't for the life of me get them to go back in. Are they meant to be cut before going in? Starting to wonder if I have the right ones.

Yea they are fun.
Use a clamp to pull them in.
Something like a G or C clamp with a large socket over the top used to work for me.
Or just lever with a piece of timber again the large socket helps.
Another way is to twist/screw them in but still with a bit of lubricant (not oil as it is not good for rubber)
My preference is silicone spray but be careful with it , not good for the lungs.
Don't cut them.
If you feel you have the wrong ones, measure the diameter at the section where they fit to the housing and they should be oversize to the housing section so they stay tight.

As an edit, I have wondered if there was a tool similar to a piston ring compressor that would compress the rubber so it could be simply pushed down into the housing.
Lubricated of course.

.. use rubber grease
works a treat with anything rubbery that won't go where you want
