Racing brothers Todd and Rick Kelly spared no effort in preparing a new V8 Supercar race-experience ride car for Holden Special Vehicles.

They not only gave up their summer break to refurbish the fully-fledged V8 Supercar Commodore at their Mildura workshops, but once all the mechanical preparation was done, they sent it off to the same Dandenong spray painter who does their intricate helmet designs, AIM Autographics, for a paint job to die for.
Nine coats of paint and clear later, with an intricate design called “speed lines” in “chrome shade” and “black candy”, the ride car is ready to give car fans a thrill just by looking at it, let alone going for a ride in it.
The car, called K2 in honour of the Kellys who prepared it and will drive it, is now on display on the Holden stand at the Melbourne International Motor Show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre until March 14.

For $495, motor sport lovers will be able to experience a blood-pumping 260km/h, 600hp adventure with one of the Kellys around a racetrack in Victoria, NSW or Queensland.
They will rocket from standstill to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds and experience G forces that only fighter pilots and race drivers know. Afterwards, each thrill-seeker will receive a colour photograph to prove it all happened, along with an HSV K2 cap.
The spiritual base for the K2 will be at Phillip Island, where HSV will be running six days of drive experiences. As well, there will be two days in both Sydney and Brisbane. Next year, there are plans to extend to other states and to New Zealand.

If that is not enough, there will be two Phillip Island HSV “Mega Days”, offering race-thrill experiences in a full hand of HSV specials, including K2, the GTS-R, the HRT 427 prototype and six current HSV cars, driven by six top Holden race drivers, including the Kellys, Mark Skaife, Greg Murphy, Garth Tander and Paul Weel.
For dates and booking arrangements, interested motorsport fans – or those looking to buy a once-in-lifetime experience for a partner, family member or friend – can check the HSV website or call (03) 9427 0519.
