Hi guys, trying to find a vibration on startup (only when cold) followed by a metallic knocking near console. Has been there for a few months. Holden can't find anything as usual.. It goes away as soon as I drive off, but also noticed a knock going over bumps. I also toe a tandem trailer for work everyday. when starting the car when cold the sound of the starter motor when starting has a deeper note. I did have issues starting the car and did struggle to start. got a new battery. was good for a couple of months. It struggled to start when hot or it didn't and the starter drew to much current and wigged the computer out. Engine light on, traction control off and car had reduced acceleration. I found the problem, 3cables where u jump start it from, they getting hot. Poor design i thought. So cleaned them up and all ok. Saved a starter motor taught Holden a new problem.. Rather fix my self. They charge a ridiculous amount just to look!!! I have replace engine mounts, diff has been changed to a higher ratio. Gave the last one a hard time. Raised the rear suspension. Diff couplings are fine, no cracks. Will change centre bearing and gearbox mount but hopefully some one has had any or some issues like this. Just hope it's not the flexplate. Pls any suggestions.
wait i am confused, so you solved the vibration issue or the starting issue.... just a hint mate, if you want someone to help try and be VERY clear in what the problem you want to solve is. whats the deal with your diff, are you trying to tell us a problem or what you have done, as i said above, it doesn't make sense
yes starting issues is solved. Thought it could be starter motor. Just letting u no whats been done to rule out other things, as from other threads. The problem is as said on first sentences but not sure of the deeper note from starter motor. Hope that helps cheers.
Could be an indication of wear inside the starter motor, bearings perhaps or Gears may of worn down, i would disconnect the spark plugs and crank the engine whilst testing the current draw of starter motor and comparing against manufacturers specs
