please help gday i own a 96 vs ute 3.8 auto. when in the car and you have the music low or off i can hear like a slight high pitched humming noise that sounds like its from under the seats. it makes the noise my fuel pump made in my vn wagon when i used to turn it on but its constant. any idea what it may be and how to fix it?? cheers johnno
Maybe it is the fuel pump - try running the engine and have an assistant pull the fuel pump fuse and see if the hum stops immediately the fuse is pulled.
ok i cant do it right this moment cause my car is over the road a 5 min walk from my house cause there was no parks here, if it is my fuel pump what should i do? would it be a problem?
If it is your fuel pump making the noise it may be due to one of the pipes fouling with the body which can make it sound loud. It normally will make a noise but usually only a barely audible hum. The can get noisy when on their last legs. Mine got noisy about a year ago for a few days and then went back to normal but maybe I was lucky....hope yours is the same. When they fail it is usually when trying to start the car - you can get them going again (temporarily) by thumping the bottom of the tank to jolt the pump. Good Luck.
