I just noticed all the photos are gone from the last lot of paint work :(

Will replace them when I return to Aust.

It's on the road now in shake down mode - the toque converter is complaining on anything more than modest throttle. The fuel pumps and injectors needed a complete clean again from sitting for almost 6 years.

Over the next week I hope to get all the photos back up again.

The ute has an electrical problem that every time you use the indicators the voltage drops to almost zero in the lighting system. Engine is running fine.

It seems very random but lights dim and wipers stall.

Gone over most of the usual things like earth points and swapping over head light switch, solder on all the connectors in fuse box connectors and the indicator stalk is new.

Any idea's... the Alternator is pumping out the volts...

check the flasher can/unit and wiring, some older cars don't like the new electronic ones

I had all kinds of problems with earths, although you've already tried that.

I ended up wiring my lights directly to the alternator through fusible links and through a few relays. They work amazingly now, the relays are the key I think.

Over time with oxidization the wire gains resistance and often breaks inside as I'm sure you're well aware of. Does the whole electrical system still get its power off the starter motor terminal?

A few things to look into - thank you :)

One thing is the screw holding the cowling vent on had locked the wiper arm from moving and hurt the motor I feel. So a replacement is on the go now and disconnecting things until the problem stops :)

Those wiper motors can be a pain to find unfortunately. The preslite motor is considerably better and is much more aesthetically pleasing than the lucas one. In any case, around $100 seems to be the going rate for a used one and anywhere from $250 and up for a reconditioned one. It's a bit of a joke really!

They're easy enough to pull apart and there are some guides on the internet. Just be careful not to break the brushes if you decide to pull it apart. If the windings have turned black and have turned powdery then you're definitely up for a new one. If the plastic/bakelite gears have just been damaged, I have some from the one I pulled apart that you can have for the price of postage :)

Well I can report back that the issue was mostly the missing earth strap from motor to body and burnt out wiper motor.

I old chap living outback of Pirie with rusty old Ford in the drive waved his know how magic and for $200 went over every bit of wire and connection and has the ute electrics all sorted. What a champion for old cars and hand shake world. :)

Now to finish the dash and instruments... shakedown part 2 coming up - this ute is almost done!!!!

It's now on the road and working towing a tandem trailer. Only a few issues to cover now - like a few more of the instruments and door trims. Bit of flooring to cover - but may go for rubber mats on black paint floor. :)
