I have a hard time connecting to site

Site has been having issues for a couple of weeks, now becoming more frequent and lasting longer. Browsers still try to connect so the DNS seems to be resolving correctly. I suspect it may be a hardware issue at the server (such as a storage or memory component failing intermittently under high loads).

Pending one final issue will look at upgrading the site to XF2 which has months in the making.

I am doubtful it will fix it but you don't know if you don't try.

Appears to be service(s) goes out of control whether it be apache or mysql, crashes then restarts bringing the site back online.

Typical, been keeping a closer eye on processes since it spat the dummy first thing this morning and haven't caught it playing up.

With that said an upgrade hopefully will take place tomorrow morning.

The forum chucked a wobbly tonight at 10:21pm, just dropped offline.
Checked again at 10:37pm and it was back to normal.

Well what a rather unexpected outage, site upgrade going well almost an hour in then poof server went banana's.

Almost looking as though it was attacked but will leave that in capable hands and carry on with the upgrade in the coming days as time permits.

Sorry all but we'll get there, fingers crossed the upgrade will be worth it.

I've owned and upgraded a few web sites and forums in my time...gotta admit I was worried about backups when this was down. I've forgotten how fragile some info can be...not sure if I can even remember what I've posted if I had to do it again !!

Since we got stung many many years ago where the host went belly up and wasn't able to retrieve any of the backups since then have always been 1st - it only takes one time and you learn that hard lesson.

Dev site uses those same files so you know the files are ok.

This upgrade had been 12-15 months in the making, I had already said I am happy to restore from a backup just glad it wasn't required and we can move forwards.

Search reindex going through as I type this 1.5 million posts down and will try and get a few more things completed.
