I have taken the vehicle to a mechanic who has put a scanner to check the fault codes but it shows nothing but says cannot communicate with the system. Any ideas what the problem is. Mechanic could not advise me what might be at fault

You need to find someone who has a Tech2, Tech2 Clone, or equivalent scan tool, to display the fault codes.

unplug your ABS module if the fault goes away then that's the problem .... very common

BTW that's not a VX cluster

The scan tool has been used but no fault codes come up and it can't find the module

it's in the engine bay attached to the front of brake modulator (the silver box with the pipes)

pull the red tab and it releases the connector

Abs module (in engine bay as pictured) or airbag module (under centre console) if it won’t communicate at all. To replace airbag module isn’t difficult, but will need one with the same number if airbags and pretensioners (e.g. 3 loop, 6 loop etc).

Abs module is a little more involved though and you need the exact part number otherwise you’ll have issues with faults, traction control, abs and airbag etc.
