I was just trying to eliminate my struglling idle, and was cleaning my throttle body/IAC. I had the IAC out, cleaned the pintle, but noticed that it moved from side to side a fair bit. Is this normal? What else can I do to fix my idle - symptoms are:

  • Only happens when stationary, or slowly rolling
  • Usually happens after five minutes of driving - not before
  • sometimes revs fluctuate enough to make it sound like its going to stall - ~400RPM

I think it is either the IAC, or possibly oxy? apparently o2 sensor can do this, but not by 400rpm. I also need to check leads, plugs were replaced not too long ago, so I don't think its them...

Check the ecu for fault codes. See if there is anything in there...then reset it. That might make all the difference.

IAC has to be set to a certain size before re-installing it, i got a picture somewhere if that helps Jack.

From the tip of the little 'hat' on the end of the pintle, to the main body of the IACV needs to be less than 28mm. That's what my Gregory's says anyway.

Make it less than that, and when you reset the computer, it will find the right length.
