ok i was pulling my throttle body out to clean it + iac, just to again eliminate it from my missing/hesitating problem, i remember reading on here that you can remove it and turn the ignition on to test it, well i did that and the needle/plunger bit went flying, on closer inspection the thread and plastics piece inside the iac motor is all stripped, so have i made a big boo boo anyway i think im off to the wreckers tomorrow to buy a new one any thoughts and does any of you guys know how much for a new one or second hand
If i were you I'd invest in a new one cause you might end up with similar problems down the track. As for the end spitting off thats weird cause you would think it would do that anyway without you removing it unless its held in somehow in the TB, I wouldn't really know I have never looked at it from inside.
na i had it unscrewed, it was just resting on the plenum, turned ignition on, it wound in, turned ignition off, it wound out, i repeated it to see it properly except when it wound out it spat the needle out
Maybe there wasn't enough pressure on the IAC so when you turned the ignition on, it spun out too quickly and broke.
yeah i dunno, it wasnt going real quick, i dont imagine it work again properly cause it now not set properly
i went to the wreckers today to try get one for my car to see if it fixes my high idle, they wanted to sell me a whole tb, not just the sensor for $55 for a complete tb
i bought one 4 weeks ago from holden as i was replacing the throttle body with a 70mm tb i think it was like $90
As tysons_2001 said, they may just want to sell you the whole throttle body, not really worth it for them just selling the valve once you have pulled the throttle body apart. I would try fixing it, gregorys gives the distance that it should be set at, IAC valve adjusts itself to the correct distance once installed, as long as nothing is broke (Which it sounds like it might be if thread is stripped). Worth a try, you have nothing to loose. I was a bit sus on turning the car on with with the IAC valve out. I dont know what you would be looking for when they say 'test' it. You dont really test it at all. You just look at it. Car is going to be trying to make adjustments, which arent going to change values, so the IAC valve is going to be pushed to its limit while the engine tries to make the required changes. Doesnt sound good to me.
ok thanks for that, i really hope this fixes me problem, i have noticed accashionly when starting it it will stay up in around 1700 rpm than drop down fast
