Well I've had my ss ute for a few weeks now after a steady diet of Fords over the last how many years.

My V8 experience has been with a number of 302 engines in Falcons and Fairlanes.

So now onto the holden. It needs revs to get going. Max torque at 4400 revs, or something like that. My old Fairlane couldn't rev that high:yeah:

So why does it need revs - is this part of the design feature?

How do I get more torque?

I'm not after more power per ce, just more urge down low, ah, like the Fords

Any suggestions?

Very common complaint of the LS1 engine. It was designed like that, a lot of people changing over from the old Holden 5 ltr complained that the LS1 needs a lot of revs on board to get up and boogy. You could buy a cam that is made to produce more torque and tune the computer for the same.

The diff gears will make the problem worse, as you will have to rev it out more to get to the same speed.

Seeing as your not far from sydney, give sonny @ marranos a call, he will get you what you need, you will find that with just a tune it will make a world of difference. Anyways i have never heard of any complaints of mid to top end of the LS1, just the crap gear ratios to go with the short bottom end range.

He wants torque not higher speed.

Mate just drop a set of 3.73:1 gear in it will get up and boggie.

Thanks for your responses.
I forgot to mention two things.
I have a manual gearbox, and I am an old fart.

I like the economy on the open road, but around town all I seem to be doing is changing gears. :driving:

So I may talk to a few people, maybe look at the cam. I'm getting the exhaust done soon, just for a nice noise rather than performance.
