Discussion in 'Car Audio' started by RideTheLightning, Sep 17, 2005.

  1. Does anyone have any ideas for having a better sound system in a vy storm ute? currently I have stock speakers, stock head unit, 2 Kenwood 350W 6 x 9s, Boss 2900 Amp (4 x 250W)...

thats a pretty good system so far..... if you want a bit more bass try and find one of those slimline subs made by pioneer.....they just sit under your seat and they make a crazy amount of bass in a ute trust me :yeah:

Now this is going to cause a sh*t storm in a tea cup but...ditch your head unit for a good aftermarket unit and upgrade your stock speakers. Best thing I ever did.

build a custom centre console with 2 8" subs or 1 10" sub above ur armrest. or put those slimline subs behind ur seat or both seats! and upgrade ur deck and speakers! forge bout those 6x9s

  5. What head unit and speakers would be good?

The choices are endless, just do some looking around and see what you like in the way of sound quality, looks etc and then get what you think is the best for your money. I have a pioneer DEH-P9450, love it (alot of people on this forum dont rate pioneer, but like I said its a personal choice), but in the end get what you like, after all its your car and ears.

    Enjoy

  7. **** man, thats like a $1800 head unit..looks bomb though...I've heard sumwhere though that if u hav the steering wheel audio controls, as i do, you need a 2-DIN head unit..does anyone know if this is true and if so how much for a decent one

you dont need the 2-din head unit to continue to use your controls, most major car audio places have an infra red unit that mimics your after market remote control, it simply wires into your controls on your stering wheel, they retali for about $250, you can get a single din head unit, ive got a DEH-p9650mp also an $1800 head unit but i got mine for a bargin $820 cost price here in aus, autobahn sell facia covers made for the VY there are two types,
    1) $30, black plastic, single din hole the rest is flat(filled in)
    2) $60, black plastic, single din hole but with a pocket built into the facia underneath the stereo,

Some advice for you dont buy to good to be true head units from ebay, they are just that, too good to be true, they are made in malaysia and have a malaysian warranty, if you want to claim on the warranty you pay for the return of goods and you may get a brick in a box back again.

Go to you local car audio store ask them if they can do you a deal, head unit + 6" + amp +sub = $$$$ savings or pay full price and ask for free installation. as for what brand of gear, anything that tickles your fanny, it depends on what your going to use it for, if you like the look, get the model number and ask everybody opionion on here!
    i hope this helps

People seem really happy with the new cheap line of JVCs...the sub 300 model with MP3 and just about everything I can point a pointy stick at!

  11. Yeh, one of my mates just got one of those new JVCs in his jap crap... they're quite decent...so here a my plans for my updated sound system:

    JVC KD-DV6105 head unit
    Pioneer TS-C160R 250w splits
Some small cheap monitor (head unit also plays dvds)
And when i find more out bout those slimline subs, i may purchase one of them

    Cheers for your help guys

  12. Ok...went down to tonkins 2day got a quote for a system.

    JVC DV6105 (head unit)
    JVC M7105 (monitor)
    Pioneer TS-C160R (splits)
    Steering wheel control converter

    Totalled $1950 including installation
Any1 think this is a good price and/or where i could get the same package cheaper?
