I think the OP was looking for something that was going to be an economical to have fitted. I think he will find the most economical option is to buy another VZ with a factory V8. $10-$11k buys a VZ V8. So it's not like a factory V8 is expensive in real terms.

Probably. I suppose we will never know.
Incidentally, a mate built an ICV based on an L300 van. Cut it into a ute. Installeed an LS1 in the rear, driving through a "V" drive (1/2 a 4WD transfer case) driving the rear wheels. And it is (last I knew) street registered in NSW. Mate knew what he was doing. Got an Engineer on board early and the car was very professionally built (by my mate). I dont suppose it could be done today.

I have no doubt he got it legally registered but the million dollar question is, did they base the emissions on the year of the L300 or the LS1? I would bet the emissions were based on the LS1, therefore fitting a 5 litre into a VZ would make it near impossible to pass emissions due to the 5 litre being a earlier build to the VZ

It was also mentioned right at the beginning to employ an engineer, to which the Op told the member " if you don’t have an answer don’t comment flog "....So you have brought up another valid point about employing an engineer right off the bat

Even if you were to sell, V8 VS are going up, keep the driveline and build one.

Best mate and I finished his old man's hg Premier wagon with 253 and 3 on the tree. Little cam that goes to 5k , headers and a GTS rear section.

One of the best noises I know.

So many hours of experience unjamming the linkages on the column shift.

That HG would have been a great project to work on.
