Hey guys I own a 2000 vx acclaim and my ignition barrel has gone, it broke as my car was kicking over so my ignition is on and steering lock has released. I'm wondering if anyone knows a way I can get my car started so I can drive it home or to a mechanic as it's sitting on the side of the road.. I also need to be able to stop the car obviously.. Cheers

Pop the bonnet and get a bit of wire, take out the starter relay and put one end of the wire on the power leg and the other on the to starter leg of the relay

the alternator wire would have to be un done ...... then take both battery terminals off

you cant risk the car running on--- only with alternator

dam it the power wire is bolted to the back of the alternator not easy to get to

only the regulator has a clip

on the positive side of the battery terminal is the alternator wire feeder - that might be a solution

Yeah I planned to play with the wheel a bit to test if it would lock, maybe the best option is a tow..

Cheers mate will have to make a few calls after work, I found a mechanic who will use the barrel rebuild kit, that will save the cost of getting new keys cut as I only got that done a few months ago,

Remove steering column surrounds, remove ignition switch, turn ignition switch with screwdriver. Easy.

I have transport to and from the car, I just thought I would try get it going before having it towed.. Having no experience with this sort of thing I come here.. With the ignition on and steering wheel not locked I thought that's half the problem there already sorted. Just need to be able to start and stop. I'll try the screw driver this afternoon..

assuming the battery isn't dead from the ignition being on for a few hours.

There are two relays and five fuses here that will stop the engine dead without the use of tools or grabbing a spark lead.

    Fuel pump
    Engine Cont. Relay
    15A ignition
    15A injectors
    15A eng sensors
    10A eng cont.
    15A fuel pump

Forget the fusible links they're a prick to remove. Personally I'd leave the relays as well since they don't like coming out.
