Afternoon holden nerds,
I'm swapping out my old broken ignition barrel, got the old one out okay but when trying to fit the new replacement it's going in half way and jamming?
I've got the key turned to "on" tried turning it, no help.

May be doing something wrong or may need to change out the whole unit?

I just done one on my Wife's VP and found I had to file a few of the leading edges due to rough casting.

It's also important to have the key in the right position and make sure the steering lock is disengaged.

Yep steering lock off and key vertical.
Where abouts did you file the new one? I've seen a few vague comments of the same thing but no more in depth instruction

You need to orientate the steering so the steering lock bit accepts the barrel

I'll try that, turning the steering wheel and make sure lock switch is up?

Wondering if the new barrel may need to be filed a bit?

Couple other points to make,
My steering lock wasn't working prior to removing the old barrel so I'm wondering if there may be an issue in the barrel housing part.
Also with removing the old barrel, I got it half way out and it jammed in the same place that the new one is.

My partner (not ideally) forced the old barrel out and he snapped the hook part off and the little spring tab on top, again adds to the question of a housing issue? I'll post a photo

You can get liquid chalk pens at office jerks or stationary shops. They are really good for marking things to provide witness marks.

You can cover the barrel in the suss parts and try again to see where it’s catching most.

The pens are cheap. They wipe clean. They might help here to find what or where needs to be filed, if at all.

Work on getting the instal right before modifying the lock.

Good idea I'll give that a go
