Hi REVHigh,

I'm booked in with you guys for a P0016 error, i was just wondering do you diagnose this, or just go straight to ripping motor apart and replacing the chain?

Is a timing chain the only culprit?

I don't know how you guys operate, as the website is not super clear about repairs.

I would love if it was just a sensor, and i could save a grand :D

Am I dreaming?

The P0016 is a Timing Chain DTC,
But it could be a sensor, the only quick and ieasy was is the change the sensor from one side to the other, and see if the DTC changes,
If it does, its possible the sensor.
Keeping in mind, it also depends on how many K's the Car has done also,
they may very well be due to changed.
If you can afford it, just get it done, one less headache.

Hi Krusing,

140,000 kms
I can afford it, but would rather not spend $1500 if you know what i mean, especially if it is a $100 sensor.
I'm not confident in swapping/changing the sensors.
I guess i will call RevHigh and ask, as i'm not sure how they operate. Wouldn't most mechanics( i suppsose they are more a tuning/revhead place than mechanic?) diagnose before doing major engine repairs? Seems like common sense to me?
But I'm no mechanic, so i don't know.

It is common sense to diagnose.

But when you've done 10,000 cars with the same code and it was a sensor 1% of the time you quote the worst case scenario.

There's definitely checks done before charging a customer $1100 labour lol.

But 9/10 you tell a customer it could be a $200 fix or $1500 it's your fault it's the $1500 and you're trying to rob them.

Tell them it's $1500 and it comes out to $200 you're a king.

My sisters LLT had the timing chain issue but one the the Cats was also completely blocked which was causing an exhaust sensor error, this was kicked up as no heat coming from tail pipe and then put heat sensor in cat amd it was hit.

We do diagnostics before we strip it down but if it looks, sounds and performs like it has a stretched chain 99% of the time it's going to need stripping down.
