About 9 with the left elbow/hand.

Love it ! There is also something primal about woodfire tha always lifts my mood. The smell of woodfire smoke too :)

Indeed it is. Feeling much better this arvo. I miss our old wood fire from when we were kids.

Looks like a nice area to relax enjoy BBQ environment , and enjoy some peace an quiet and a few coldies ( yeah I remember you've said you don't ) , but I do enjoy !!!! .
Reminded me of my place in Sydney .
But land beside my place they called a park but was just bush = nice open deck to view and enjoy, so on Sunday arvo with no traffic noise you could imagine you were in the middle of nowhere = fantastic.

It's not bad but the neighbors recently cut down a whole lot of trees and now we can see a lot more :( The one good thing about this lockdown is the lack of traffic noise.

But cheers mate, hope you're enjoying a cold one

Last day off work so last chance to make a bit of progress. All going well I'll have it running early next week (after I finish my shifts in the asylum).

First job of the day was to button up the sump. Climbed under the car and was shocked, god damn bloody mess under there. Buttoned up the sump and set to scrubbing with a can of degreaser. I do remember running out of degreaser before the lockdown so might explain why I hadn't done it earlier.

Hosed it down and then used more degreaser to have a 2nd go. Still going to need another go but looking a lot better.

Next job was to start dressing the front of the motor.

And get the balancer on. Gave everything a good once over, oiled the seal and crank snout and pressed the bugger home.

With my 600mm breaker bar and home made holding tool for the balancer it doesn't take much effort to get 300Nm+ of torque on the balancer bolt.

I made this tool many moons ago and works brilliantly. Interestingly enough, many years later when I got a hold of the factory service manual they show that exact tool to hold the balancer. And my favourite pair of Vice grips to hold the tool whilst torquing it up.

Feeling fairly grubby after my grease shower under the car so it's time to clean up, have lunch.

Got a few more bits bolted on, most of the front of the motor is complete bar the alternator and PS.

Spent ages searching through the remaining parts for the trim piece that holds the DFI module loom but couldn't find it anywhere. Checking early pictures it looks like it didn't have one when I bought it.
:(

Never mind, did a bit of searching through old V6 parts boxes and found one
:)

Getting ever closer now. Bearing in the tensioner pulley needs doing but it's not critical (yeah right).

I'm still thinking the AC needs to go. Where we are going it's going to be dead weight. I'm thinking though the electrical pixi make it happener might fit there nicely and make more room around the top of the motor for other activities. that's definitely a down the road proposal for now.

Next job will be to fit the plenum and sort out the intake. Considering changing out the injectors with a spare set, I don't know how long since it ran on petrol and the original ones may be gummed up?

Time to get some more **** bolted on. First job was to change out the injectors with a set that came from a running car. One of the OG injectors looks fairly ****.

Then I spent ages looking for the bloody purge valve, got that fitted and then fitted the plenum, a little vaseline on the injector O rings and she slid right into place.

Next job was the alternator, I then discovered I'd forgotten to fit the rear support bracket back on the head. What a PITA that was with the plenum and injectors already fitted. Figured I'd also check out the alternator itself. It's definitely not new but it also not 340,000km old but no doubt got more than enough life left in it for my purposes.

And fitted on the engine.

That is fairly much the captains side top of the motor sorted.

I was about to start finishing off the PS system when I realized I hadn't primed the oil pump before refitting the timing cover. 2 steps forward, 1 step backward. Stripped out the PS pump and oil filter extension housing and used an oil can filled with engine oil to get some oil down into the oil pump.

Then it was lunch time.

Hey. That’s also the same tool that Holden specify for undoing the front drive shaft nut on the. Adventra etc.

I was going to make one and did a template for it before deciding I didn’t need to.

It's amazing what you can do with a few holes (and a bit of steel).
