Got the 2nd head done today (in between looking/buying a car for my youngest boy). This one measured up a bit better (1.870 to 1.890).

All shiny and ready to go.

Just organizing shims to suit .

^ is that right side chamber of the second head OK as the little defect in the lower righ side looks to have sharp edges? will they be an issue causing hot spots that could lead to unintended ignition issues?

There is a ridge, it's a cast defect. Nothing critical.

The boy bought a e46 320i BMW.

It needs a new throttle cable and I fixed a vacuum leak on the intake between the MAF and TB before coming to work. Seems to run good otherwise, reasonably clean and tidy.

Finally, some nice weather on my day off!

Picked up some oil for the boys beemer this morning and we'll do that when he's finally up (finished his last shift for the week on the bus this morning 6am).

Got stuck into the VT after lunch time.

Tried something new for cleaning surfaces.

New felpro head gaskets and ARP studs after cleaning all mating surfaces with isopropyl alcohol.

And the first head is back on and torqulated down.

Just doing a little dinner prep and then back into the other side.

Ended up getting the 2nd head on, then realized I've swapped the head around...

Did the oil change on the boys beemer and thought I might as well get the LIM bolted on, but it's completely filthy so chucked in the little parts cleaner instead :(

The gasket surfaces cleaned up ok but there is a bit of corrosion on the faces around the coolant ports.

Will give it a bit more of a clean around the injector ports in the morning and it can go back on even though it's still a bit filthy on the outside.

As long as all the important bits are clean and internal surfaces.
