    Greetings guys and girls.

I have a certain amount of money to spend (not to much as i'm getting married in a couple of weeks).

What i want to know is am i better hooking a decent set of speakers up to the stanard Eurovox factory sterio for better sound and adding a decent headunit later OR getting a decent headunit now and hooking it up to the factory speakers in the Commodore.

Unfortnuately at the moment i can't afford both.

Any advice will be greatly accepted.

    Thank you.

my advice would be to just hook up a good head unit now and get speakers later on, i know a few people with just a good head unit and just the stock speakers and there systems sound half decent.

yup yup, thats what i did.

i got my self a realy nice pioneer head unit and ran the front stock speakers with some after market 6.5" for the rear and the factory fronts sound pretty go0od...although when you get to cranking the volume up it may pass out on ya.

but if its for easy listening i'd just keep the stock speakers and run em with the new head deck.

I agree with the others. I put new speakers in my car and kept the old eurovox for a while. I had planned to get the stereo all done at the same time, but the head unit was is my old car (i wanted to put it in the new one cos it was high end at the time and cost me a lot) and took longer then i planned to get it swapped over.

Anyway getting to the point... The new speakers i put in sounded like CRAP through the eurovox. Static at just about any volume - high or low. I would recommend going for the head unit first. As the others have said, the stock speakers will still go alright for now. Then when you get some cash, hook a set of splits for the front and you will be laughing.

PS - hope ya wedding goes well

its all because the stock speakers are almost perfectly matched with an aftermarket unit. the stockers are rated at 15wrms and thats the output of a A/M h/u.
if you put in aftermarket speakers they will be more clear but tinny and sound pretty ****e

Better speakers running off stock Eurovox head unit will still sound crap.
Stock speakers running off better quality after market head unit will sound heaps better.

    I'd definitely have to agree with everyone else here and say upgrade the head unit first. If you're going to upgrade your system in steps I'd do it like this;
    1. Upgrade head unit
    2. Upgrade front splits... nice set of 6" or 6.5" running off head unit initially
    3. Buy an amp to power new front splits. Either a nice 2 channel, or a 4 channel to also allow for a sub in the future.
    4. Buy sub woofer. If you only got a 2 channel amp for the splits then you'll need another amp for the sub, a monoblock. If you bought a 4 channel amp then run the sub off the rear two channels bridged. (Note. dedicated amps will give best results, but will cost more and use more boot space)

You also need to allow for all the wiring in there, and you may also want to sound deaden certain parts of your car (doors, boot etc.)... which can all cost surprisingly a lot.

^^^ i agree with that. However, if your not fussed on subs you could always replace the rear speakers with another set of splits or good 6 inch speakers. Adding a sub to the mix will be another couple of hundred dollars (putting a decent sub in - not worth putting a crap one in).

no i agree with jb. sub THEN rears. if you can't afford a sub then have a look at what spending more on the fronts does to the sound for yourself. OR IF YOU MUST put in 6x9's............... can't believe i just advocated the use of those things.......

Haha I hear you mate... but honestly, a good set of 6x9's installed well can sound alright. They're still a good option if you want a bit more bass in your system without having a sub woofer. Although to tell you the truth I'd probably rather invest in a free air sub installed in the parcel shelf if boot space was that important to me.
Having said all that, I will never use 6x9's :p I hate the damn things, and I'll always find some room in the boot for a sub.
