Improving VF SV6 sound without being ridiculous

I want to improve the exhaust note of my SV6, but don't want it to sound like ****. I know it's not a race car, or an SS, but the engine is just too quiet. I would like it to be audible, yet reasonably subtle. Any advice on how best to achieve this?

Its probably always going to sound like crap because its a 6 cyl.

you can experiment cost free by getting under the back and unbolting the mufflers and listen to what it sounds like, that will give you an idea what rear muffler deletes will sound like.

I love the sound of a 6, especially inline.

like stooge said take the rear muffler off for a week to give you an idea. Then get a 2nd hand catback.

Agreed there are some good sounding inline sixes around.

But for me to get addicted I really need to be injected with more cylinders.

I've never heard a V6 in the current Commodores that I've ever liked, in fact I haven't heard a good six in a Holden since the inline 202 with a triple set of Strombergs.

I have a standard exhaust on my sv6 wagon, but it has an Elite Engineering CAI, and the sound on full noise is pretty awesome. But having stock exhaust/mufflers keeps it quiet when cruising, and does t have that drone that alot of bent 6's end up with

You're hearing the intake suck air not the exhaust expel it.

I am aware of that....just saying I like that sound compared to what the majority of v6s sound with an aftermarket exhaust.

it seems to be easier with less cylinders to get that wet fart in a tin can sound. IMO straight pipe or maybe just resonator is the way too go but dont go too big of a diameter.

 

[VS 5.0]

VE SS mufflers on the VE SV6 give a nicer but not obnoxious sound.

Maybe they are the answer you are seeking.

All I can say is don't run straight pipes at the rear in place of mufflers.
Hot dogs may be an option however.
