I have a Vr 94 commodore no modifications which for 18 months has had a random problem where it turns over but fails to start.
sometimes ok for a few days, when it fails there is no pattern but often will start after 30 minutes +.
Has come up with faults 41+42 crank angle sensor/DFI-now both have been replaced still problem.battery, plugs have been replaced.
Electricians are saying that faulty wiring can cause incorrect fault readings is a well known fault in commodores.
Does nay one have experience of this?

if the problem is not solved by replacing the parts it will be a loose connection at either the CAS, DFI or CPS, have someone competent fix this & it should all be ok

If your trying to pin it on holden wiring it incorrectly in the factory or sumthing like that - youre shooting at the wrong target. Code 42 is normally caused by the CAS. But there are a number of components tied up with it that will cause this fault to occur. The CAS is first and most likely, the DFI module could be the problem, coil packs or finally the costly ECU. Now what your electrician is saying to be the problem is a wiring fault, not as in wired wrong, just switch this wire and youre good to go - but more like theres a loose/ slightly corroded wire which is not making good contact. If you get a manual like gregorys you can run through a number of checks. One place where they do point out a chance of a bad connection is a big connector on the side of the DFI module. It is covered by a piece of plastic, but if there was water spraying on the engine from above or below, the water may sit in there and rust the wire. You might have to throw your $ at someone who knows, as Dr Bob said.

Sorry guys, we got the codes wrong. The test compuer is reporting DTC codes of 40 and 41.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated.
