Hey,

I seem to have a problem with my indicators on my latest car. Sometimes they will work, and sometimes they will not.

I've checked the flasher unit which works fine on my partners car (so i pinched hers anyway) and still no joy.
Thought it might've been a fuse the first time but fuse was also good.

Aside from blinker fluid, is there anything else to check before I have to start tracing wires back?

EDIT: VIDEO OF WHATS HAPPENING - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtMClpaHP0Q&feature=youtu.be

Blinker fluid.....haha.....yeah right.
Always good to check it though.

At a guess, I'd say the indicator stalk,
or the hazard switch is cactus.

Pinch the one out of your partner's car (if it's the same).
Put yours in her's and then it'll be her problem.:)

Might be your alternator

/joke

Do you have a socket for a trailer plug? Those can cause some strange problems if the wires break/come loose etc

Yes have a trailer plug but nothing is arcing itself over, heard a funny noise from under the dash when it wasn't working before it started again, was coming from the flasher unit area.

Yea, haha yea I'll just head down to sprints tomorrow, they should have a book that tells me what blinker fluid to use.

If it's on the VY, I'm pretty sure they have a an indicator relay as well as a flasher relay.
The indicator relay, is a normal 4 pin relay, under the dash, in the fuse compartment, where the flasher relay is.
That relay, could have been the funny noise you are referring to.

Its on a vt wagon, but the fuse/relay area is exactly the same from memory so I will have to check that out.

Strangely enough, same thing happened again this morning, no indicators so in the car park at work I'm letting it idle while I think what the hell else it could be. Went to turn the indicator on and it sort of half clicked on and made the noise but didn't illuminate. Weirdly as the car warmed up it made that weird noise again for about 3-5 seconds and the indicators started working again. Will try and get a video of it tonight when i leave work.

Ah....Took a guess as to which car it was.
The VT doesn't have that relay I was talking about.
neither does the VY or VZ....only the VX.

Here's the link to the clip of what's happening - in this clip the car had been idling + short drive to work - all up maybe 15 min of running. Seems to be about the average time for the car to warm up properly before the indicators start this process and eventually work. Really annonying because on the way to work no one knows where I'm going and really don't want to get pinged for it.
