I've decided to be a good son and fix some things on my mums car lol. For starters, I just want to concentrate on fixing her indicators, which don't flick off after turning a corner. I know that she has had a new indicator switch put in, which doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. Is there anything else I can do to help remedy this problem? Also, is taking off the door trim in a VS similar to that of a VX? (namely having to pop the red tab in the lock). Thanks
You might need to replace the little plastic thingo that flicks the indicators off. Re the door trims, yes, flick the little red clip up to get the door lock off.
its the autocanceller behind the steering wheel, has she fitted a new steering wheel lately? take the wheel off and you will see a plastic circular shaped part which can be spun either clockwise or anti clock. turn it once to the side its not cancelling out on and it should fix it. you may need to adjust it a few times to get it perfect so just make each change minimal.
vnv8driver: thanks for that, but it's for both sides, it never flicks itself off anymore.. How hard is it to remove the steering wheel and stuff? Is there a guide somewhere on here for it?
Its fairly easy. If you have an airbag you will need to follow the correct procedure to disable it safely - gregorys has the full procedure. From memory you then remove the 4 torx screws at the back of the wheel holding the air bag in, the air bag comes off, you remove the big nut that holds the steering wheel onto the spline and just pull really hard while wobbling side to side and the wheel will come off.
Ahk, I think I know what to do.. I'm not 100% sure if mum has an airbag, but I think she might ('97 VS Commodore Wagon?). Would disconnecting the airbag fuse first also be a good idea? And do I have to be really careful to make sure i hold the airbag in the same place, relative to the steering wheel itself?
Just disconnect the battery then turn your lights on, this will discharge the capacitors for the airbags. Then remove the airbag from the steering wheel, then remove the wheel. Do not reconnect the battery and turn the key on without making sure the airbag is plugged back in or you will get an airbag light come on that needs to be reset by a Tech 1 scantool.
ok mate thankyou. I'll give it a go as soon as I get some good weather and a bit of free time. So I'm just looking to turn that little plastic part? Or, seeing as though both directions don't flick off, will I need to replace this plastic thing?
Wait until you take the wheel off and look at it. It may be that what ever holds it in place could have broken or come adrift so the little plastic thing turns.
