Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has used injector cleaner before? My car doesn't really have much guts and i want to try and give the motor a bit of a clean and get rid of all crap inside it that has built up over the years. Does injector cleaner make any difference? Also can anyone recommend any motor additives that i can use to try and get my motor a bit healthier?

    Cheers!

i used injector cleaner in my VP, cause it was running quite rough and was a bitch to start. I used the whole bottle in one tank, and everything just worse. But after time, everything smoothed out, and now it starts first time, everytime, and has a perfect idle. Whether this is due to the injector cleaner im not sure, but ive heard many people say that it's great stuff, and to use it every 4th tank or so..

As far as additives, im not to sure, but there was an article recently in Strret Comm Mag, about using E85 petrol. Difference to this if your not sure, the current E10 you can buy has 10%ethanol, E85 contains 85%ethanol, and is conservatively rated at around 110 octane. They say you'll need to upgrade your pump and injectors, and obviously find someone that has E85 on pump, which is apparantly only a few places at the moment.

It's far cheaper to run 2 - 3 tanks of Premium Unleaded through the system. Higher octane fuel will keep the fuel system and combustion areas of the engine much cleaner. You might even gain some degree of improved performance.

Ok thanks guys. Yeah i was thinking the same as you Benboy about running some premium through it. I only bought a bottle of injector cleaner cause it was on sale for $4.95 at my local auto shop lol. I was thinking wether i should by more or not.

Accoding to the handbook, that come with the car, the engine is designed to run on standard 91 octane fuel only. It also states that using a Premium fuel, with a higher octane, will not give any benifits... Yeah i know sounds odd, especially from holden. My parents have a magna 95 model (kinda off topic) in the hand book for that, where it tells you the specs for the motor, it tell you how many KW produces on 91 octane, and then on 95 octane...theres a diference of 5kw. Seeing as you go now get higher than 95, i dont see how an engine would not give any benifits, from running a higher octane fuel....I'd use the injector cleaner, probably on half the bottle to a tank as it states on the back..two mechanic's i have been to have said to use it every 4th tank or so, so for $4.95, you may aswell huh?

Of course 98 octane doesn't do any damage, it does the opposite. Its a much better quality fuel, its not just higher in octane. Lower sulphur etc, plus cleaning additives that keep the engine system clean and running well.

I think Daniel.B should research before he posts any more, especially in regards to E85 which is not an argument I am going to get into here.
