Pitting of the inlet manifolds was originally detailed in a US bulletin #TSB 01-06-01-007A around 2001. Some shops say to use High Temperature Exoxy Filler and not RTV to fill the pits.

Nice post dig ;). Yes JB Weld is the best for fixing pitting. Maintaining coolant and stray current is best at stopping the above happening. The Mace (AC Delco) or Fel Pro (Amazon) steel LIM gaskets are the best.
