is not impossible... I have standard parcel shelf, and have 6x9's in it. Just a little time and effort required to do it. It is also legal apparently, but a lot of places do not like doing it because of the effort. Personally, the best thing you could do both quality wise and cost wise would be to put a nice set of six inchers in there... the sound is better and the quality is better... Maybe not as much bass, but if you plan on subwoofer/s later on, get the six inchers. I will be getting six inch rears for my parcel shelf, as my subwoofer blew the cones on my six by nines!!! lol :)

Thats my two cents worth... If you are in Sydney, and need 6x9's installed for cheaper than anywhere else, i suppose I could do it... But u need spacers for the job, and a lot of people do not like spacers...

I put 6x9's in my VR by using come speaker pods, they dont look as dicky as the spacers and you can usually get them in the colours to suit the interior. If ur intrested you can pick em up from Autobarn. Anywway i got a mate who had northfield make him up a custom parecl shelf and it looks awsome, his 6x9's sit flush, not sure wat it cost but i can find out if your intrested!!

    take it easy

I have mounted my 6x9's under the parcel shelf where the old 6" speakers were what I did was put a piece of 1/2" ply there to stiffen it up cut out the bare minimum metal and the stock parcel shelf fits back in.
Looks totally stock and no theives would know any different

mate it's simple yet a little time consuming...Remove your rear seat, pull the back of the base up then push the whole thing back (hope that makes sence) then you will see two 13mm bolts holding the back sections in place, undo them and lift the back section up and out. There are a few plastic plugs along the front of the parcel shelf carefully pull them out, also undo the baby seat bolt and the two plastic pins either side of it. Undo the bolt that secures the centre seat belt to the floor of the car. Remove the rear shelf. S Remove the factory 6' speakers, now you will need a hammer and chisel.. there are two spot welds holning the 6'' mounting bracket in place break these welds and twist the bracket up and down untill it comes out. ( this WILL NOT make your car un-roadworthy however cutting the metal shelf in anyway will so dont touch it ) Remove the factory grilles from your parcel shelf and use the stencel from your 6x9's to cut a new hole in your shelf. ( the 6x9's will sit long ways, make sure you centre them with the hole in the metal shelf so the magnet dosent hit. Fit the speakers to the shelf out of the car then put the whole lot back in one go.... Hopefully this helps you mate, i know it's a lot to take in and if i knew i was going to type this much i woulnt have done it.. Once you get started it's easy, i've done it pleanty of times.. Good luck...

Sorry mate i dont have any pics, but like macca said if you line them up properly you wont have a problem with the magnets hitting... just remember instead of the speakers sitting how they normally would (left to right) you'll have to spin them around, if that makes sence.....

  12. I got mine in sitting left to right... dont hit the magnets... j ust did it the toher day and head unit yesterday. ill get sum pics in the enxt couple days...

im just wondering, this sunday im looking at putting some pioneer 2-way 6" in the rear of my vs exec. im hoping for as little cutting banging drilling etc as possiable but was wondering should i mount the speaker in the stock bracket or should i drop that out and use the grille in top and the supplied clips to hold the speaker against the parcel shelf and mount it like that [i figure doing it that way should give me the clearance i need with only 4 holes each for the screws and at the trouble of fitting the shelf back with the speakers hanging off it.

again im hoping to get this and my head unit done sunday so i'll keep my lappy handy and do a writeup / photo shoot for each step as i go. hmmmm dont really want to use my pda camera, its pretty dodgy quality. might borrow my dads old canon cam.

unless someone in perth has a reasonable camera and wants to swing by sunday to help me with the head unit? heck if its eaiser i can swing out where ever and go though it all. if someones interested, pm me.

i cut 6x9 holes into the top layer of the parcel tray. They slotted in perfectly and sit flush. From inside the boot you cant even see that the trays been cut due to the double layer. the sound is awesome as opposed to using stinky pods or spacers.

To be fair, people get flamed for digging, but they also get flamed for not searching. Its pretty easy to not notice how old a thread is, and they do get revived all the time :)

7 years is a long way to excavate though lmao
