I Apologise if this thread has been done but I could not find it. I am looking for a "How To" on doing a ratio change on a borg warner live axle lsd. I found the thread on how to remove it all. I am looking for how to do the change an install it. ie backlash lapping etc.

install is the reversal of the removal. the hard part is that you require specialist gear to adjust the gear backlash and wear pattern etc. the shims used for the carrier are surface ground to suit so can't really be altered at home in the garage. you can alter the pinion shims if you can find a supplier as the shims can be purchased in different thicknesses. in my opinion it's money well spent to have someone set it properly for piece of mind and long service life of your new gears. if you have a IRS diff then you can set the backlash oyurself as the carrier is set using a threaded adjustment
