I was told that you couldn't retain the rear door speakers when i installed 6 by 9's in my vt but someone else told me you could, as for putting them in your vy, no probs there as far as i know, might just have to cut out a bit to fit.

I have not found any speakers wires hanging around the rear parcel deck so running wires has to be done.
I cant find any reason why you cant piggyback the rears with the rear door
speakers as most modern car audio amp ICs will handle down to 2 ohm loads.
Nore can I find any tech specs for the standard radio ie power output
impedance range etc.
Im thinking of adding 6X9s in my VY ser 2.

Regards
Fred

we added 6x9's in our vy ser 2 in the rear parcel shelf. the audio guys bypassed the door ones and used a vt vx speaker grill . Works a treat, but not being a audio/electyrical wizz i followed their ideas.A decent audio guyor girl should be able to do what you want. But i have to say the system in our car is better than many i have heard thumping around the streets and no vibration rattles either. We kept the head unit and replaced the front and rear speakers and added an amp.

hmm, not a great idea. u may be lucky enough to get away with it but no way would i ever do it. your asking for trouble. if "modern" car head unit IC can do 2ohm loads why are the power specs only given for 4 ohm loads?

In the Monaro they are wired down to 2ohms in the rear, but they have longetivity issues in the monaro.

Thanx for all your replies I think I might by pass the rear door speakers to mount them that way. Can anyone tell me if it's hard to fit an amp and sub to the standard head unit aswell

Yes, the Monaro has a pair of 6" two waysin the rear panels and a pair of 6.5" woofers in the parcel shelf....The parcel shelf speakers are amped but the amps presents a 4ohm load (not to sure how it works, although taking a high level input and making it a little higher doesn't sound like much work to me.)

A basic electronics
course is a start or go for the
technicians level @ tafe.
I dont know everything but I do work
@ service level in electronics.
So what is the audio output chip/IC
in the standard VY ? then find out if
it will support 2 ohms .. I rekon it should .
Smile its a new year and we all learn
Crazy dutchy
