Hey guys,

I did a memcal swap today so I thought I would contribute whilst I was doing it (photo's).

After removing the negative terminal on the battery, I sussed out the surrounding edges of the kick panel before I tried removing it.
I found that the plastic panel above uses these plastic screw things. There were only two in mine but there was a hole that looked like it was for a third. The one on the left holds the top end of the kick panel in. Remove that.

Next I had to remove the door sill. Using your nails or a flat headed screwdriver, pry up the rubbery plastic strip.

(please excuse the filthy floor)

You will now see the clips in the doorsills through the gap where the plastic strip was.

Squeeze the gap closed and lift lightly. (These clips snap easy)

With that you should be able to push the kick panel forwards whilst twisting it to the right to remove it.

You should find that the there is (There was for me) only one screw at the bottom left of the box.

Undo that then lift the box up whilst not pulling it away from the wall. On the ECU holder, there is a clip at the bottom facing down and a long one up the top facing up.

Pull the bottom of the bracket away as you push down it down and it should come out.

You then unscrew the top panel on the ECU, switch the Memcals over and do everything in reverse order to put it back together.

Hello there. Ive got a 28 pin chip to install in my ecu and in the instruction supplied says it must be soldiered in. Is this correct? From my research it seems you can just push it in and that's fine. Just wanted to ask as I don't wana fry anything. Cheers

Probably best to follow instructions , to be on the safe side , but you could always confirm this with the ecu supplier .

Need a little more info really, what sort of ecu? Generally speaking all factory Eproms are soldered into a MEMCAL so to fit a new "chip" you would first need to remove the old one.

BTW, what chip did you buy? If it's a TRX100 item I'd seriously think twice about using it.

If you do intend to do this, I would recommend that you solder in a socket instead, that way you can fit and remove the chip without having to do any more soldering in the future. If this is for a VS/VT style PCM you can get a replacement MEMCAL that already has a socket, that way you can retain the original MEMCAL and have one to play with. If your after such a MEMCAL, talk to the user The1.

Cheers

Std ecu vn v8. No it's not a trx100 chip. Has h268 same cam as sv5000.runs fine but idle hunts a fair bit and gets fuelly. I located a hsv 200i chip got the knock sensor dissabled. If no luck with stock 200i tune. I'll try the1.
Cheers

I ended up using a socket to install chip, easy to do. Motor now idles and runs so much better.
Thanks for the idea "immortality". Cheers
