Much better to get a cluster from the correct series. The biggest problem is that the fuel guage will work backwards if you get one from the wrong series. A result of this is that the DTE function in the trip computer will become useless.
This problem is "fixable" by changing the fuel sender unit - at about the cost of a brand new cluster. Ther have been claims that it can be fixed by programming, but I have yet to be given actual evidence of a success with this.
Remember that the new cluster may need a Tech2 progamming to allign it with your particular vehicle.
