    geez.
I got a quote from Just Car for a VN Calais 5.0 with rims, $2000 stereo, cold air, zorst, chip, sp. s/w and some other stuff and they quoted me at $2600 with $450 excess for age (17) and $400 normal excess. Thats for a value of $8600 and they won't cover rims.

    Young & Cool

Hey guys Just Car insurance $1000 a year rating 3, 19yrs old for my vn Calais. But for vs, done up commodore or any 5litre id recommend "young and cool" or just car because the vs is not over 15yrs. Young and cool wouldn't insure my vn because it is over 15yrs old. I have heard a lot about "young and cool" and my mates going with em with his vr. They insure v8 and turbo cars for people under 25 but older than 20. Check out there site, get a quote and if u can guys post a reply 2 let others know about this place in NSW, what they can offer us commodore drivers. http://www.youngandcool.com.au or 1300 307 066 ;) Cheers SUBDUE

    I have a 'couple'
$455.01 (that 1c is important) through Shannons, rating 1, with agreed value on a 93 VR exec of $10,000. Soon to get new modded engine with o/s pistons, cam, headwork, custom exhaust etc etc which is also fine with them as they don't consider it really modified unless I stick a turbo or something on it :p

    It's good being over 25 :w00t:

Be careful on agreed value for your car when insuring and read the fine print. Generally you have to prove the value of your car with photos, receipts etc. Insurance companies are not fools and they will not payout more than what the car is worth which is not necessarily "agreed value". Also check who gets the wreck as in most cases it then belongs to the insurance company. A writeoff can still be worth a few thousand if it has expensive mods. I pay $230 a year for market value on a 97 Exec and would expect no more than about $6500 in a writeoff (thats market value!).

I can prove the value of my car to be what it's worth and recently had it's value indepentantly assessed, on our other car with Shannons we also had to provide photos. Shannons is good because you have first option at purchase of the wreck in all cases, and depending on your policy, you can opt that the vehicle remain your property should it be written off.

    VS S2 Manual Executive

I have a 1997 VS Series 2 Manual Executive with Aircon, ABS, Dual SRS, IRS, Holden alloys, Cruise Control and lately a Level 3 Cluster.

It is insured with AAMI in Sydney. I have just received my renemal, for an agreed value of $12,600 for a premium of $432.

Surprisingly, that is a few dollars more than my insurance on my new VY S2 Manual Executive.

Fekason - if you don't mind me asking just where did the figure of $12600 come from - is it original second hand purchase price plus mods or what. My VS is virtually identical to yours and its market value (from insur co) is $6500. Insurance companies can argue that expensive mods done by the owner actually lessen the market value.

    Agreed Value

I have owned the car from new, in May 1997.

It is a rare manual, and has a fair number of options listed:

    ABS
    Dual SRS
    IRS
    Aircon
    Cruise Control
    Holden alloys
    Level 3 Cluster (recent addition).

In other words, it is a manual Acclaim + more options. I expect it is a rare breed.

The insurance company has been whittling away the agreed value over time, but it is all their own work.

If I were to sell it, I would expect to get at least $8-9K. However, I will be keeping it for my son (just got his learners) for many years to come.

    Cheers.

Possibly another reason re agreed value!

In addition to my comments last night, I think that part of the answer for the differing agreed values might lie in my car being one owner.

A manual Acclaim - Humm, somebody correct me if I am wrong but I don't belive Holden actually made any manual VS Acclaim's? Auto only. It's like saying you have a V8 Acclaim - They never made em'.

I am not 100% on this, but I am pretty positive~

He means it's a manual executive optioned out to be equal to an Acclaim. See his earlier post.

Hako, my 97 Acclaim (one owner) has market value of $11,500 according to Glass's Guide. They went by condition (perfect) and kms (94k). It's stock apart from rear spoiler.

Generally speaking an optioned executive (to Acclaim/Berlina spec) is worth little or no more than a standard one, according to valuers and insurance companies.

Check Redbook - it suggests maximum of $5400 for tradein value and $7300 for private sale - and thats for a 5 speed manual --- autos worth $1000 more (!). That's 4 to 6 thousand dollars lower than Glass's guide. I wonder which one the insurance company would believe.

AAMI use Glass's Guide for their 'market value' evaluations ;)

    hi gyus
wondering what sort of market value id be looking at (as is the basis of my nice cheap premium) with the following car / mods

    jun 97 vsII acclaim
$12000 from dealer with the holden certified warranty blah blah
    110,000 k's
pretty much immaculate except for stain on front passenger seat (looks like mud??)

    mods (cost)

    Mods:
    Pacemaker headers PH5039 (630)
2.5" cat back Lukey sports exhaust (350)
Pedders sports ryder suspension all round (1000)
    Holden S/C V6 CAI / K&N panel air filter (250)
    Solartint darkest legal tint (325)
    pioneer / boss stereo (1500)

i know the stereo and air intake / filter prolly add jack **** but what about the other stuff?

I have had it for 18months or more so i would expect maybe $11000 allowing for the mods?

Ritchie - go to redbook.com.au and they have current values online or try drive.com.au where I think they have a similar setup. Both are free services. Most of the extras you've fitted could indicate that the car has not been driven by a little old lady only on Sundays to church and as such are better removed from the car if ever you sell it (just my opinion as I like to buy cars driven by L.O.l's)
