- MY17 VFII SS-V Redline Sportwagon
MY17 SSVR Sportwagon required new rotors and pads at 60k service in December.
Holden wanted ~$2100 to replace them.
Sourced DBA T3 (cross drilled and slotted as could not obtain slotted only due to supply issue) rotors and QFM HPX pads as this was only $1100.
Local mechanic fitted them for me and bedded them in for me at the start of February. Drove car home and it was quiet. Next day wife took the car to work and when she came home I could hear her from 1km away. Car is making a horrendous squealing noise (I can't determine if it is from rear, front or both).
The next day she was hit head on so the car went to panel beaters and was there until we picked it up a few days ago. Getting the car back and it squeals so loudly that with windows down it causes your ears to ring. I thought perhaps the pads weren't bedded in properly/enough so I attempted to do it again.
I used the procedure from DBA to try bedding brakes in again. 5 slow downs from 60-70km/h with moderate pressure on pedal, followed by 2 slow downs with increased pressure from 70-80km/h without coming to a complete stop.
Drove for 10 minutes to let system cool down.
After this the brakes were much quieter.
Next morning reversing out of driveway, car is squealing again.
I have read a few threads on here regarding squealing brakes on the Brembos in the VF2.
There are mentions that copper grease needs to be applied somewhere on the back of the pad. There is also mention of shims that Holden fits. Does anyone have a picture of what these shims look like, and is there an easy way of determining whether my mechanic refitted them with the QFM pads?
All up the new rotors and pads have done about 300km of driving (freeway and stop start) without much heavy braking.
The SSVR is my wife's car, and she's pretty pissed off at how loud the squealing is. She is now angry that I tried to save $1000 by not going OEM and aftermarket.
Thank you.
