Stripping parts today and came across something I don't think I've seen before.
The inside of the diff housing has been painted with some sort of oil release paint (I can't remember the name right now) Anybody seen this before?
Also tested the LSD center from the VN. This was rebuilt by a local diff specialist many years ago and has seen plenty of abuse.
Setup is a IRS stub axle hub mounted in the vice and a old axle shaft cut down and ground down to a 27mm hex head size. Then you simply use a torque wrench and keep increasing the load until the unit slips. Breakaway torque varied between 160-180Nm which isn't bad for a well used but rebuild LSD.
Bearings still look brand new like the day they went in. Diff oil came out clean and still green in color (I think it was Penzzoil 80w140) with only a little grey stuff sitting at the very bottom of the housing.
